Nieka Richard begins her viral Tik Tok with an admission: ‘‘I lied to my wife’’.

In a video that has since garnered 2.5 million likes, Nieka is re-twisting her wife’s locs. As her hands expertly detangle her partner’s hair, Nieka takes us through the story of how this came to be. When her wife asked if she knew how to do locs, Nieka answered yes without a second thought. And despite having never touched a loc before, she spent the day leading up to their meet-up watching countless tutorials on how to style them.

The result is a beautiful testament to how the practice of Black hair manifests through love, and how we can show up for others through beauty. ‘‘Every time I do my wife’s hair, it’s a reminder that I’m capable of anything I put my mind to, and when I say I’m going to do something, I do it’’, Richard said.
